R PRACTICES

We believe that business can drive enormous change, which is why we run ours with a difference, pushing boundaries to make the bold changes at that moment and holding the notion of an economy that cares at heart. We like to think that being bold calls for a dash of daring and a little bit of magic. Just as we believe fashion can be a force for good, so do we think that business can be a force for good.

Turning the supply chain inside out

We ripped the old fashion supply chain memo and started again. With R Collective’s talented designers, each of whom has different flares for different fabrics and techniques, we work backwards. We first source our waste materials and with inspirations in mind, we create the mood boards and hit the design table hard to find ways to reinvent our found waste materials into the gorgeous collections that we later retail.

Transparency and Collaboration

We love working transparently, telling you as much as we can about our manufacturers, the supply chain of each collection and how we rescue our fabric waste. We work with various brands and manufacturers, some of whom prefer to say confidential for now, to release their waste back into the fashion system. This also provides our partners with unique solutions for their own waste reduction targets. We also collaborate with our sister charity Redress, with whom we share 25% of our future profits, on the positive power of fashion by educating on best practices. (In order words, we want to spread the love!)

Best Practice

Because bravery is in our blood, we are testing the market with newer materials, like using more recycled materials, from fabrics, labels to packaging, and methods, like developing our own small circular system where customers can rent, return for repair, or donate their unwanted R Collective clothing through our Take-Back programme. To make ourselves even more accountable, we are signed up to the  Global Fashion Agenda’s (http://www.globalfashionagenda.com/commitment/) 2020 Circular Fashion System Commitment to accelerate the transition to a circular fashion system. We’re also a member of Hong Kong’s Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium http://www.sfbc.org.hk/template?series=2&article=3).
